Know Before You Go
We look forward to welcoming you to Mountain Vista Golf Club. We are excited to provide you with a great experience and ensure your visit is smooth and enjoyable, from arrival to the 19th hole! We can’t wait to share this “gem of the desert” with you!
As we are a golf facility operating within the gorgeous Sun City Palm Desert community, we have a few aspects that may be different from other golf courses you’ve experienced.
Entering the Community
Sun City Palm Desert is a guard-gated community. Guests typically enter SCPD through the Main Gate located at Washington Street & Del Webb Boulevard nearest Interstate-10.
At times, there may be a back-up of guests and vendors at the gate. While we make every effort to clear these back-ups quickly, they can add a bit of time to your arrival at the course. Please plan accordingly.
Please note that you may also enter through the North Gate, which is located approximately two miles further north on Washington Street. You will typically find no line at the North Gate.
When you arrive:
- Proceed to the left lane staffed by our gate attendants.
- Inform the attendant that you have a golf tee time.
- The attendant may request your ID (e.g., driver’s license).
- The attendant will then provide access to SCPD.

Two Courses, Different Locations, Different Facilities
MVGC features two golf courses at different locations within the SCPD community. As well, each course has different facilities.
Santa Rosa Course
Address: 38180 Del Webb Blvd, Palm Desert, CA 92211
Located near the SCPD Mountain View Clubhouse, upon entering the driveway, proceed all the way to the end where the Bag Drop and Pro Shop are located. Facilities at this location include:
- Driving Range (incl. in green fees for either course)
- Chipping Area
- Putting Area
- Cali Cafe (next to Pro Shop)
- Daily Grind/Martinis (in Mountain View Clubhouse)
- Restrooms at holes 4, 9, and 13
San Gorgonio Course
Address: 36890 Del Webb Blvd, Palm Desert, CA 92211
One mile up Dell Webb from Santa Rosa, you’ll find San Gorgonio, located near the SCPD Sunset View Clubhouse. Upon entering the driveway, the Bag Drop is immediately to your right. The Pro Shop is behind the Bag Drop in the building nearest Dell Webb Blvd. Facilities at this location include:
- Putting Area
- Boulevards Restaurant (in Sunset View Clubhouse)
- Restrooms at holes 6, 9, and 14
- Please note that there’s no driving range or chipping area at this course
Beverage Cart Service & Personal Coolers
A beverage cart is available In-Season Friday through Sunday to provide convenient snacks and drink service throughout your round. The beverage cart is NOT available off-season or Monday through Thursday in-season.
Due to the limited availability of the Beverage Cart, our guests are highly encouraged to bring their own snacks and coolers with non-alcoholic beverages. We also recommend that you bring a drinking container (insulated ideally) for our water stations around the course. Each Pro Shop has ice machines for your convenience. Ice is also available at Santa Rosa 9th Green, and San Gorgonio 9th tee (next to restrooms). Each MVGC golf cart also has a cooler.
Seasons, Tee Times, and Shotguns
We have two golf seasons, with In-Season/Winter defined as NOV-MAY, and Off-Season/Summer as JUN-OCT with our rates adjusted accordingly. In-season, we aim to keep the courses pristine. Off-season, while we endeavor to maintain to the highest standards, with the heat and water use regulations, there will be areas of heat stress that are typical for desert courses in the summer.
As a guest, you may book weekend rounds up to 15 days in advance. For weekday rounds, you may book up to 6 days in advance. Weekdays prioritize our Residents’ Golf Clubs, hence the difference in booking windows. Nonetheless, you will find many tee time opportunities on weekdays, particularly Monday and Friday.
To maximize playing slots in the morning, on Mondays and Fridays we use a shotgun format on one course and an open format on the other course. When booking a tee time for a particular course on Monday or Friday, if you see only one tee-time in the morning (typically 7:30 or 8:00am) and multiple tee times in the afternoon, then the early round is a shotgun format. When you arrive at the Pro Shop to check-in for a shotgun you will be advised which hole you will be starting on. Please allow an extra 10 minutes in your planning to get you out to your starting hole.
Dress Code
Acceptable attire includes all endorsed by the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and PGA of America Professionals. For Men, this includes slacks, shorts, shirts with collars, mock collars or crew neck with sleeves; For Women, slacks, dresses/skirts or shorts (minimum mid-length), blouses (sleeveless with collars or collarless with/sleeves). Shoes must be spike-less golf shoes, spike-less golf sandals or tennis shoes.
Unacceptable attire includes any garment with offensive language or symbols, sweatpants, denim/gym/cut-off/short-shorts, T-shirts, halter tops or tank tops, bathing attire, spiked golf shoes, casual sandals or flip flops.
We respectfully ask that you adhere to this policy while using the practice facilities as well.
Rules & Pace of Play
To help ensure an enjoyable experience for all our golfers, please adhere to these simple rules and guidelines:
- Please fix your ball marks and fill your divots. All carts have sand bottles for divots.
- Follow all staff instructions and posted signage.
- No disruptive, damaging, offensive or threatening behavior.
- No loud music. We welcome you to enjoy your music during your round, but please consider other golfers and our residents’ homes when selecting your volume level.
We believe that pace-of-play is very important to the enjoyment of your round. We target 4:00-4:15 hours for pace-of-play for a foursome, and faster for smaller groups. Please keep up with the group in front of you. If our course marshal determines that your group is behind pace, you will be asked to speed up. If, on a second marshal review, your group is more than a hole behind, you may be asked to skip a hole if you are holding up play behind you. As a courtesy, if your group is not keeping up with the group ahead, please encourage the group behind you to play through.
“Project Zoysia”
Sun City Palm Desert and Mountain Vista Golf Club are stewards of our environment. With the prevailing drought conditions and potential future water restrictions, we have undertaken an extensive project to assess the viability of alternate grass species that may help us reduce our water consumption, eliminate overseeding, and reduce the use of chemical pesticides. Of course, a change like this is significant in terms of both cost and duration. Likewise, we want to ensure that we maintain the beauty and playability of our courses before executing such a major change. As such, we are conducting experiments with Zoysia grass in several test plots in the community. One such test area is the 6th hole on the San Gorgonio Course, where all but the green has been converted to Zoysia. When you play San Gorgonio, we’d love your feedback on the 6th hole Zoysia.
Note that the 6th hole is currently closed as the new Zoysia settles in; this hole will re-open on September 28th, 2026.
